When you’re hiking out in the wilderness and carrying a full backpack, the last thing you probably want to do is weigh your feet down by wearing heavy hiking boots . A lightweight pair of hiking boots will enable you to travel through the terrain quite a bit quicker and should also keep your feet cool and comfortable as long as you’re wearing the right size boots.

Lightweight hiking boots are generally worn by hikers who aren’t climbing steep or large hills and don’t need to wear heavier mountain boots. They are called lightweight boots because most of them tip the scales at less than three pounds per pair. These boots are made specifically for men and women and most of them are either waterproof or water resistant. The boots are generally comfortable and breathable and they are easier and quicker to break in than heavier, full grain leather boots.

Lightweight hiking boots have upper areas that are generally made out of various types of lightweight leathers and mesh. The midsoles are usually made of polyurethane, foam or air cushioning to keep you comfortable and the soles are almost always made out of some type of rubber that can give you good traction in all types of weather and terrain. The tongues are normally gusseted to keep twigs, pebbles and other debris out and are sometimes padded to make sure your laces don’t dig into your feet. You will also find some tongues are made of breathable mesh to keep your feet well ventilated.

A lot of boots will use Gore-Tex barriers in them to also protect you against the water. Some models have supports and removable footbeds and others have anti bacterial inserts or linings to help keep them fresh and odor free. Most lightweight hiking boots will also have reinforced or protective toes and heels, which are usually made of rubber, to protect them against scuffs and abrasions.
