Taking your home on the road

If you're towing a boat or planning plenty of day hikes you'll want to take a peek at our other outdoor adventure checklists.

Before You Hit the Road

  • Make sure your load is balanced
  • Make sure you don't overload the vehicle
  • Ensure the tires are properly inflated
  • Get all the maps / road atlases to cover the area you'll be traveling
  • Field guides for any areas you'll be exploring
  • Fill propane tanks
  • Make sure the stove and fridge work
  • Check any doors, windows or tarps to ensure everything is properly secured
  • Test brake and signal lights on both your car and / or RV

Clothing

What you bring will depend on your planned activities. Be sure to bring a change of clothes for every day you will be away and an extra day's worth for each week or partial week of your trip. This will get you through unexpected rain storms, cold snaps and dirty day-trips:

  • Hat
  • Sunscreen (SPF 30)
  • Lip balm (SPF 30)
  • Sunglasses
  • Insect repellent
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Warm jacket
  • Sweater
  • Jacket / raincoat
  • Umbrellas

While your packing list varies depending on your RV and camp site amenities, the following will be used by most RVers :
